After the Waters Part: When Breakthrough Momentum Meets Disobedience

Muharram 11- The Day of Reckoning

Al Salam Alaikum 🌱

We’ve stood at the shoreline with Prophet Musa, we’ve struck the sea and watched it part.

Today, as we conclude this sacred trilogy, we must face the most uncomfortable truth in entrepreneurship- what happens when we let fear override faith after Allah (SWT) opens doors.

The Israelites crossed the Red Sea in triumph, Pharaoh’s army was defeated, and everyone celebrated the victory.

Then Allah (SWT) commanded them to enter the Holy Land and conquer it. What happens next should serve as a stark warning to every faith-first entrepreneur.

⚡️ The Ultimate Entrepreneurial Test

After the Red Sea breakthrough, the Israelites faced their biggest test. Allah (SWT) had given them victory, momentum, and clear direction: enter the Holy Land and take what I’ve promised you. But when they saw the giants in the land, fear overruled faith.

“They said, ‘O Moses, indeed we will not enter it, ever, as long as they are within it; so go, both you and your Lord, and fight. Indeed, we are staying right here.” (Quran 5:24).

This wasn’t wisdom or strategic planning- it was disobedience disguised as caution.

🌵 Three Critical Lessons from the Israelites’ Failure

1. Success Can Make You Risk-Averse

The Israelites had just witnessed the ultimate miracle, yet when faced with their next challenge, they chose comfort over conquest.

Similarly, many entrepreneurs experience their first breakthrough- funding, a major client, market valuation- then become so protective of what they’ve gained that they refuse to take the next faithful leap.

“[Moses] pleaded, ‘My Lord! I have no control over anyone except myself and my brother. So set us apart from the defiantly disobedient people.” (Quran 5:25).

After every breakthrough, expect Allah (SWT) to present you with a bigger challenge that requires even greater faith. The Red Sea was not your destination- it was preparation for your Promised Land battle.

2. Fear-Based Decisions Lead to Prolonged Wilderness

Allah’s response was swift and decisive: “Then indeed, this land will be forbidden to them for forty years, during which they will wander throughout the land.” (Quran 5:26).

When entrepreneurs choose fear over faith after breakthrough moments, they often find themselves in extended periods of stagnation- not growth phases, but consequences phases. The very thing they feared (risk) becomes their reality (prolonged uncertainty).

3. Moses’s Leadership Through Disappointment

Notice Prophet Musa’s response when his people refused to obey Allah’s command. He didn’t argue, didn’t try to convince them, didn’t compromise the vision. He simply separated himself from their disobedience and remained faithful to Allah’s plan.

“So do not grieve over the defiantly disobedient [rebellious] people.” (Quran 5:26).

The 40 years in the wilderness weren’t character-building- they were the natural consequences of choosing fear when Allah (SWT) had already provided victory.

  1. Assess Your Current Giant: What opportunity or challenge is Allah (SWT) presenting to your business that feels too big or too risky? Write it down specifically.

  2. Fear Audit: List the fears that are preventing you from moving forward. Are these fears based on lack of resources, or lack of faith in Allah’s provision?

  3. The Joshua Test: If you knew Allah (SWT) had already guaranteed your success, what action would you take this week toward your “Promised Land”? Take that action.

  4. Team Evaluation: Assess your current team, advisors, and investors (if applicable). Who among them encourage faith-based decisions versus fear-based ones?

  5. Obedience Over Opinion: Choose one area where you’ve been seeking human approval instead of following divine guidance. This week, prioritize obedience to Allah (SWT) over others’ opinions.

🌊 The Sacred Days Conclusion

Over these three sacred days of Muharram, we’ve journeyed from crisis to breakthrough to fear-based decisions.

We’ve learned that faith-first entrepreneurship isn’t about achieving breakthroughs- it’s about having the courage to keep moving forward when Allah (SWT) opens bigger doors.

The Israelites teach us that crossing your Red Sea is only the beginning. The real test comes when Allah (SWT) presents you with your Promised Land opportunity. Will you enter it with faith, or will fear keep you wandering in circles?

Prophet Musa remained faithful to Allah’s guidance even when his entire people chose fear. He entered his personal Promised Land- eternal reward with Allah (SWT)- even though he didn’t see the earthly conquest not enter it.

Your Red Sea has parted. Your giants are waiting. The choice between faith and fear is yours.

The waters have parted. The giants are real. But so is Allah’s promise.

Enter your Promised Land.

This concludes this special three-part series. May these lessons from the sacred days of Muharram give you the courage to choose faith over fear, especially after your breakthrough.

Your Promised Land is waiting for your obedience.

🤲 Closing Dua

“May Allah (SWT) grant us the courage to enter our Promised Land when He opens the door, the wisdom to distinguish between divine guidance and human opinion, and the strength to remain obedient even when others choose fear.”

Ameen
