Everything I Learned About Entrepreneurship, I Learned from The Quran

Lesson #26: Decisiveness

AL SALAM ALAIKUM 🌱

This week, we’re diving into a crucial trait for any successful faith-first entrepreneur: decisiveness. The ability to make firm decisions, especially in uncertain times, can set you apart in the business world.

Let’s explore what the Noble Quran and the Seerah teach us about this essential skill.

⚡️ The Power of Decisiveness

Lessons from Prophet Ibrahim (AS)

The Noble Quran highlights Prophet Ibrahim’s decisiveness in his unwavering commitment to monotheism. Despite facing opposition and danger, he remained firm in his decisions:

Lesson: As faith-first entrepreneurs, we must be willing to stand firm in our decisions, even when faced with opposition or challenges.

The Importance of Shura (Consultation)

While decisiveness is crucial, the Noble Quran also emphasizes the importance of consultation before making decisions:

Lesson: Gather insights from trusted advisors, but ultimately, be prepared to make a firm decision.

Trust in Allah (SWT) after Decision-Making

Once a decision is made, the Noble Quran encourages us to trust in Allah:

Lesson: After thorough consideration and decision-making, trust in Allah’s plan and move forward with confidence.

Learning from the Prophet’s Decisiveness

The Seerah provides numerous examples of the Prophet’s decisiveness. One notable instance is during the Treaty of Hudaibiyah, where he made a difficult decision for long-term benefit, despite initial resistance from some companions.

Lesson: Sometimes, decisive leadership requires making unpopular decisions for long-term success.

Spiritual Decisiveness Exercise: The Prophet Ibrahim's Resolve

This exercise is inspired by Prophet Ibrahim's unwavering commitment to monotheism, as mentioned in the newsletter. Here's how to practice spiritual decisiveness:

  1. Reflect on a spiritual or ethical dilemma you're currently facing in your business or personal life.

  2. Set aside 10 minutes for quiet contemplation and prayer.

  3. During this time, recall Prophet Ibrahim's firm stance against idolatry, despite opposition.

  4. Ask yourself: "What would be the most principled decision in this situation, even if it's challenging?"

  5. Make a firm decision based on your faith-based values and write it down.

  6. Conclude by making dua, asking Allah (SWT) for strength and guidance in implementing your decision.

This exercise helps strengthen your spiritual resolve and aligns your decision-making. It encourages you to face challenges with the same decisiveness as Prophet Ibrahim (AS), trusting in Allah's support.

🤲 Closing Dua

May Allah (SWT) grant us the wisdom to make sound decisions and the courage to be decisive in our entrepreneurial journeys.
