Everything I Learned About Entrepreneurship, I Learned From the Quran
Lesson 22: Rest
Al Salam Alaikum 🌱
Today’s, let’s explore a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of entrepreneurship: the power and importance of rest, as highlighted in the Noble Quran.
💤 Rest and Divine Design
In the cutthroat world of capitalism, growth often comes at the expense of rest. However, as Muslims, we must approach this differently.
We are purposeful creations, designed by Allah (SWT) for a specific purpose.
This intelligent design by God Almighty, who created the universe and our place in it, includes the cycles of day and night, the sun and moon- all with their respective roles.
As faith-first entrepreneurs, we should work in harmony with this divine design and understand the power of rest for our minds and bodies.
This is particularly important because, as Muslims, we are constantly (or should be constantly) in a state of striving for God’s cause. Rest helps us to continue this striving effectively.
📖 The Quranic Perspective on Rest
The Noble Quran emphasizes the importance of rest in several verses. For instance, Allah (SWT) says:
This verse highlights that rest, particularly sleep, is a divine gift designed for our rejuvenation. As entrepreneurs, we must recognize that rest is not a luxury, but a necessity ordained by the Creator.
In another Surah, Allah (SWT) says:
🔑 Key Takeaways
Rest is a Divine Blessing: Allah (SWT) has designed sleep as a means for rejuvenation, supporting our daily endeavors and spiritual growth.
Align with Divine Wisdom: As entrepreneurs, we should respect and work in harmony with Allah's natural rhythms of rest and activity.
Holistic Success: Our entrepreneurial journey should aim not only for worldly achievements but also to please Allah (SWT) by maintaining a balanced life that fulfills our responsibilities to our Creator, families, communities, and ourselves.
Implement Mindful Rest: Incorporate regular breaks, adequate sleep, and moments of spiritual reflection to enhance productivity and maintain a strong connection with Allah (SWT).
This week, I invite you to reflect on the Islamic perspective of rest and its application in your entrepreneurial journey. Here's your 5-minute exercise:
Day 1-5: Each day, intentionally schedule a 10-minute 'rest block' in your workday. Use this time for dhikr, brief exercise, or simply to step away from work.
Day 6: Reflect on how these daily rest periods affected your productivity, mood, and spiritual connection. Write down your observations.
Day 7: Based on your reflections, create a rest strategy for the coming week that aligns with your values and supports your entrepreneurial goals.
At the end of the week, assess how this challenge has impacted your view on rest and its role in your business.
Remember, in resting mindfully, we're not just recharging ourselves, but also submitting to Allah's wisdom in creating periods of rest and activity.
