Everything I Learned About Entreprenurship, I Learned From the Quran
Lesson 4: Seeking Knowledge
AL SALAM ALAIKUM 🌱
As we continue our mini-series this week, we delve into the importance of seeking knowledge.
When I first set foot on my entrepreneurial path over six years ago, I was venturing into uncharted territory with no prior experience in business and no knowledge of how to set up or run a successful venture.
I was about to step into the world of early childhood education, a field I was completely unfamiliar with.
I quickly realized that there was a steep learning curve I needed to overcome by becoming a dedicated self-learner.
My life took a turn when I consciously decided to seek knowledge, absorb it, and put it into practice.
At this point, I began to witness tangible improvements in my business. We stabilized, made more strategic moves, and served different and more lucrative market segments.
This is not surprising as our faith greatly emphasizes seeking knowledge.
The first word revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was “Read!” underlining the significance of literacy and knowledge.
I turned to books as a primary resource, reading as much as possible and extracting practical lessons I could implement immediately.
I recall a podcast interview a few years ago where I was asked about my superpower. I responded with “Learnability,” as I truly believe the future belongs to those who continuously learn, not those who think they know it all.
This belief is deeply rooted in the story of the Prophet Musa (AS) in Surah Al Kahaf. When he heard of Al Khidr, someone more knowledgeable than he was, Prophet Musa didn't hesitate to seek him out, regardless of the effort it took.
This story reminds me never to let arrogance cloud my understanding, always to stay humble, and to continue seeking knowledge, wherever it may be.
This drive led me to join countless online courses and programs to improve and build my skills.
I also enrolled in a year-long educator certification program and traveled to multiple cities to acquire the knowledge I deemed important then.
Since I began building Workship Labs earlier this year, I’ve made it a priority to expand my professional, personal, and spiritual horizons continually.
But beyond practical knowledge, I’ve found that learning about our Creator is the most valuable wisdom.
This spiritual learning is not about moving away from worldly pursuits. On the contrary, it’s about infusing our daily lives and careers with a deeper understanding and consciousness of Allah.
Remember, the pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong journey. I hope this inspires you to invest in your spiritual growth as much as your personal and professional growth.
🔑 Key Takeaways
Never be arrogant about your knowledge; always remain humble.
Seek knowledge from wherever you can find it.
Invest in yourself and your continued education and spiritual, professional, and personal growth.
Dedicate time each day to spiritual and professional learning. Reflect on the recently acquired knowledge and how it is applied daily.
Strive to implement one new knowledge into your daily routine, whether it improves your business or career or brings you closer to Allah (SWT).
