Scarcity Thinks You Provide. Abundance Knows Allah Does

Lesson 30: Abundance

Al Salam Alaikum 🌱

Welcome to another edition of our series, “Everything I Learned About Entrepreneurship, I Learned from the Quran.”

We’re now at lesson 30 from 40, and this week, we’re diving into a spiritual and strategic superpower: abundance- and how it’s directly connected to the gratitude mindset in Islam.

In the entrepreneurship world, mindset is everything. Many chase success with a scarcity mentality, believing there’s not enough money, opportunity, or success to go around.

But, the Noble Quran flips this completely. It teaches us that gratitude is the gateway to abundance, both materially and spiritually. The more grateful we are, the more Allah increases us- sometimes in unexpected ways.

🌾 Gratitude is Leverage for Abundance

Allah (SWT) tells us in Surah Ibrahim:

This isn’t just a feel-good-verse- it’s divine law.

Gratitude activates growth. It’s the most powerful form of leverage: small acts of thanks that unlock multiplied blessings.

Whether you’re at the start of your business journey or in a season of uncertainty, cultivating gratitude shifts your focus from what’s missing to what’s possible.

Gratitude is not passive. It’s not about waiting to feel good- it’s about actively recognizing and honoring the gifts Allah (SWT) has already given you. And from that place, striving with trust and hope.

🕊️ Prophetic Models of Gratitude & Abundance

Let’s look to the Prophets who embodied this mindset:

Prophet Dawood (AS): In Surah Saba, Allah (SWT) says:

“….Work, o family of Dawood, in gratitude.” (34:13).

Gratitude wasn’t just a feeling- it was a verb. It translated into action, contribution, and fulfilling responsibilities with ihsan.

Prophet Sulaiman (AS): Given unmatched power, wealth, and dominion, Prophet Sulaiman (AS) never claimed credit for his success. When the throne of the Queen of Sheba was brought to him in the blink of an eye, he said:

“This is from the favor of my Lord, to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful…” (27:40).

Even in moments of grandeur, he remembered the Almighty. His gratitude wasn’t lip service- it was shown through justice, humility, and service.

Prophet Muhammad (SAW): Aisha (RA) once asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) why he worshipped so intensely even though his past and future sins were forgiven. He responded:

“Should I not be a grateful servant?”

Gratitude was the engine behind his devotion, leadership, and service. He taught us that gratitude isn’t tied to circumstances- it’s a way of life.

đź’“ The Abundance Mindset in the Quran

Islam doesn’t shame ambition- it redirects it.

The Quran encourages us to ask big, dream big, and believe in the vastness of Allah’s mercy and provision:

“Say, Indeed, my Lord extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it], but most of the people do not know.” (34:36).

Believers are taught that there’s no scarcity in Allah’s rizq. What limits us is often our own mindset, not the actual supply.

The Quranic abundance mindset is about trusting that:

  • There’s more than enough.

  • What’s meant for you will reach you.

  • The more you think, the more you’ll be given.

It’s not about blind optimism- it’s about grounded faith in the promises of Allah AlMighty.

📊 Visualizing the Mindset Shift

To help bring this week’s theme to life, here’s a visual breakdown of two competing business mindsets: the Capitalist Scarcity Mindset verses the Quranic Abundance Mindset.

The capitalist model of growth at all costs is the one we are sucked into by default- whether we realize it nor not. It emphasizes hustle, ownership, control, and competition. If we’re not consciously resisting it, we start internalizing scarcity, anxiety, and self-reliance as the norm.

That’s why we need to constantly reprogram our thinking and realign with the Islamic worldview.

Take a moment to study this chart- where do you see your current mindset reflected? Where do you want it to shift toward?

🔑 Key Takeaways

🔑 Gratitude Multiplies: A single sincere “Alhamdulilah” can open the doors to more blessings- spiritual, material, emotional, etc.

🔑 Act on Gratitude: Like Dawood (AS), turn your thankfulness into action. Let your business, leadership, and service be a form of shukr.

🔑 Think Abundantly: Trust that Allah’s provisions are vast. Let go of fear-driven hustle. Work with ihsan, not panic.

🔑 Gratitude Realigns the Heart: It pulls you away from envy and comparison and grounds you in tawakul and contentment.

This week, take 15 minutes to cultivate an abundance mindset through gratitude:

đź‘€ Notice (5 mins): Write down 3 things you’re grateful for in your work or life today- especially the small things you often overlook.

đź’ Reflect (5 mins): How can you show gratitude through action? Is it by approaching your work with ihsan, helping someone, giving in charity, or simply saying Alhamdulilah with sincerity?

đź’¨ Act (5 mins): Do one small act of sincere gratitude. Even a dua, a smile, an extra two units of prayer, or a moment of presence counts, inshAllah.
